Non Return Valve Installation & Maintenance Guide
This informative guides and tips article outlines the installation process of Turtle Enviro’s Buffalo Non Return Valves into an underground drainage system in an easy to follow, step-by-step set of instructions.
- Firstly, remove the manhole cover from your inspection chamber. Use two people if the cover you are using is made of a heavier material.
- Before taking any further actions, you should determine the direction of flow in the system. A simple way to do this is to flush a toilet within the property.
- Clean out the incoming pipes of any debris if necessary.
- Now you will need to fit your non return valves to each of the flow pipes from your property. It is important to make sure that you do not install non-return valves on the outlets of your inspection chamber, only on the inlets. This will prevent blockages.
- Take a non-return valve and push it up to a pipe inlet mouth. Make sure that the valve is positioned correctly in the pipe; with the flap downwards and the hinge pivot point horizontal.
- The non-return valve should be pushed back into the pipe as far as possible and preferably none of the black fins should be visible from outside the pipe. The locking clip should be positioned downwards for regular use and for maintenance the valve can be locked or closed.
Performing Maintenance
The non-return valve should be checked on a regular basis to ensure optimum performance. Key checks that should be performed during maintenance include checking that the valve flap opens freely and has not become caught or dislodged. You should also clean out the valve of any debris that could be affecting the sealing or closing.
